I wasn't impressed. Quite a few friends recommend we try the restaurant. There was about a 15 to 20 mins wait we were... handed a pager. The wait went fast, and were sat at a tiny table in the middle of the restaurant we were bumped into as people walked by. I ordered the seafood platter and the soup of the day, beef barley. The food was average. My husband ordered a breakfast with corned beef he also ordered the seafood soup. The soup was good. The breakfast plate was average.read more

A real, authentic, terrific diner experience in Wells, Maine. It's been here for about 40 or so years and the reason is... they have great food and service at fair prices. The wait staff are all mature women who know how to sling hash with the best of them. Our breakfast was delicious. If you don't stop here you're missing one of the best diner experiences Maine has to offer. I've never been so disappointed in breakfast from such an promised establishment. I ordered the 2s are wild and a side... of hash(well done), my girlfriend ordered a custom omelet(with ham, onions, and salsa) and our son ordered just some plain pancakes. He wouldn't eat his pancakes they weren't warm and tasted dry, the syrup was smuckers.  Her omelet was egg wrap with the middle filled with her choices and was not appealing. I was looking so forward to my meats and none were desirable to me but our son ate them. My blueberry pancakes were the most upsetting. With being full of blueberries and being fully blue pancakes there was absolutely no blueberry taste. I thought it was just me but they all tried and agreed as well. My hash was still mushy inside the well baked scoop and came from can. We will never waste money here again.read more

The Maine Diner is a traditional diner experience in southern Maine. With all the diner classics you could ask for... it's a great stop for a quick breakfast. A very comfortable and personal experience, the opposite of a corporate chain. I asked for one drink, they didn’t have... it and improvised and made something on the spot. I went kind of late last night, really hoping to try the Lobster Pie. I wasn't super hungry, but we had seen it on DDD,... and it looked amazing, but at the current price of $37, I just couldn't justify it. I'm sure it's good, but that's pricey. So, I opted for a bowl of their Seafood Chowder, for $15.95. It was packed with Lobster, clams, shrimp, scallops and I think some white fish. It was good, but it wasn't hot. Maybe it's because it was within an hour of closing, I don't know. The bathrooms definitely need an update, but was reasonably clean. The service was excellent and fast!read more

I ordered the lobster Benedict as I am a tourist and I'm going to eat as much lobster as I can while I'm in Maine. And... the lobster Benedict was delicious! Very happy with it. My son got the blueberry pancakes and they were yummy and my oldest got the steak and eggs and it was really great. The order came out fast. The portions are huge. So there's plenty of leftovers. I have to say that the staff was very friendly. The restaurant was almost completely packed but we were still able to get a table and I do appreciate how often the waitress checked on us even though she was super busy with other tables. I deffinitely recommend this diner. My wife and I originally ate at The Maine Dinner for the first time in the fall of 2020. We were there right at the... peak of the COVID-19 outdoor dining. Due to the restrictions, the seating was mostly outside, under a heater. It ended up being an unexpectedly wonderful dining experience. When we found ourselves coming through Wells recently, we just had to return and give the diner another try now that the COVID-19 dining restrictions are no longer there. The Maine Dinner did not disappoint! Our breakfast was fantastic. We both ordered the almond-encrusted French toast with real maple syrup. The French toast was out of this world. The service was top-notch, attentive, and friendly even though the diner was very busy. Even though this place was on the phantom gourmet and has wonderful reviews this place was absolute the worst when it... came to everything; I mean I don’t think I been to a place as bad as this one. The food was awful. The only thing that we had there that was good was the chicken pot pie. Food is not remarkable but fabulous menu choices. I just had a standard breakfast and I thought the hash browns, my... measurement, were just so so, but the sausage links were very tasty! I give four stars for the entire experience. This place is always crowded but we were seated within 15 minutes on a late weekday morning. What was outstanding was the traditional New England Indian Pudding, a combo of cornmeal, molasses, maple syrup and spices. The lunch menu looked divine, with traditional favorites like chicken pot pie and open faced turkey sandwiches. It was fun to watch their lightning fast, professionally friendly service. To be honest, I was kinda unimpressed. I took my girlfriend here for a nice breakfast and was greeted with a rushed... wait staff and a relatively impersonal experience. Based on the other review and it being on a TV show, I would have figure the restaurant would have been a cut above the rest, but I can say it certainly isn't. Moving on to the food side of things, I got an all American style breakfast with all the fixings and my girlfriend got a breakfast sandwich. Starting with my meal, the eggs tasted fake and the sausages were cold. I will say that I was impressed with the pancakes though, they weren't soggy and had a good flavor profile. The real atrocity comes with my girlfriends breakfast sandwich. The plate it was served on was soaked in butter causing the entire sandwich to be a drippy mess. Not to mention the bagel they served it on was thin and uninspired. Almost like they just bought a pack of Thomas's original bagels off the grocery store shelf and served it on that, which would have been fine if they weren't so small. Overall the experience was fine. I wouldn't go as far as saying that it's anything better than just your local Denny's, and that's the real problem due to them advertising it to be much better.read more

My wife and I went for breakfast. The service was okay felt rushed when ordering and throughout the time we was there.... The food it’s a place that says they have homemade stuff well that’s obviously not all true. To start the eggs I ordered were cooked very well as well as the home fries, the corned beef hash was clearly canned and barely warmed up, not even close to a nice crisp hash, the bacon was cheap. Portion sizes to price were on the small side. My wife said her breakfast sandwich was decent and the hash brown was not good at all. The biscuit she ordered looked as if it was taken out when it was half done then reheated and rolled around in flour as an attempt to make it look good I guess..idk it looked gross from my end. The coffee was such a burnt flavor that nothing could’ve made it taste good. Maybe we will give it a shot for dinner and hope it will be better or go somewhere we know is good.read more

It was a thick gravy that had a small amount of crab and very little crab flavor. The rest of the Triple D was great. The lobster bake was excellent! Coleslaw and red potato salad were good. The cod fish cake was also tasty. This also came with a moist corn muffin. The market price for the Triple D was $35.99. There was a tremendous amount of food and I couldn't finish it. We made a stop at Maine diner for lunch on our drive back to Boston. It's recommended to call in advance to be on the... list since the wait time seems to take about 30 to 45 minutes depending on time of day. Is it an indoor and outdoor service but we prefer to be seated outdoor. The chowder was filled with seafood such as lobster, shrimp, scallops and fish while the lobster roll is abundantly filled with lobster meat, no skimping on lobster here. Service was great, our waitress was super sweet and attentive. Food however......was another matter. We ordered two... burgers for the kids cooked well, and they were charred pucks that nobody would touch. Fries were okay, not bad. My sister got clams that were good, and my brother in law got the crab cakes which he enjoyed. Fried fish was so overdone it was dry & flavorless. My meal was the triple D - the chowder was PHENOMENAL, definitely worth it. The lobster pie wasn't my cup of tea, which I think was just my personal preference instead of the fault of the cooks. The codfish wasn't very good, texture and flavor was off, but my brother in law liked it. Overall, great service but pretty average food. I'd recommend the chowder, crab cakes & clamstrips. And maybe the hamburgers provided you don't order them well!read more

Food was amazing!! You can tell it's fresh, the number of cars in the parking lot - with many different states - should... be a good indication. Ordered the seafood chowder, which had scallops, shrimp, lobster and oysters, and lobster roll. It wasn't very good hot with butter, but that's not how I prefer it. Large serving of lobster. I works absolutely recommend!read more

First off food was amazing! No complaints at all! The lobster Benedict was perfect! Only reason for the 4 stars is... because of the wait to get in. Which is understandable because of the excellent food. Though it was extremely hot that day. And eating outside was not the best choice I made. To make the best of this experience get there early and eat inside even if you have to wait. Thanks Maine diner!! 💚read more

My husband wanted to give me something special for my birthday. That something special was the “special” shipped... overnight from The Maine Diner in Wells, Maine. I was blown away when I opened our package as they had made the food order extra special! It not only had 2 lobster pies and seafood chowder, but also included 2 lobster rolls, blueberry pancake batter, Maine Diner mugs and salt water taffy! This was their new package that they have named the “04090” (their zip code). We truly felt like we were spending the weekend in Maine! On Friday, we had the lobster rolls, on Saturday we ate the lobster pies, and on Sunday we had the seafood chowder! I served the blueberry pancakes Saturday, Sunday and Monday! The package and containers arrived in pristine condition! Everything was absolutely delicious! This was the first time I had their blueberry pancakes and they were so light and fluffy! Loved them. The mugs and taffy were the frosting on the cake! Thank you so much to Jim and the Maine Diner family! You made my “milestone” birthday something I will always remember!read more

Staff were very attentive and easygoing, and the food was to die for. Only complaint was my medium steak ended up being... closer to medium rare but I'm not going to dock a star for that. Just drove up from Connecticut to stay in Ogunquit for the weekend. First stop was to The Maine Diner. Wife had the a... Triple D (Cup of their famous seafood chowder, lobster pie and cod cake). I had a bowl of the seafood chowder and their lobster pie. The seafood chowder comes with a corn muffin and the lobster pie comes with choice of either coleslaw or carrots and choice of potato. I got the coleslaw and French Fries. The meal for both of us was incredible. We have been here before and this place never disappoints. Quality and staff are always top notch.read more
